🐾 Fun Facts About Kinson Ridge Giants

Featuring Disney Names, Drool Fountains & A Whole Lot of Fluff

Living with Newfoundland's is like living in a fairytale... if the fairytale included 150-pound dogs who snore like freight trains and sling drool on your ceiling. Welcome to Kinson Ridge Giants — where the dogs are big, the love is bigger, and the mop is always within arm’s reach.

Here are a few fun facts about our not-so-little family:

šŸŽ¬ 1. Every Dog Has a Disney Name

That’s right — we’re total Disney people. Every single one of our Newfoundland's has a name straight from the magic kingdom.

  • KodaĀ was named after the adorable bear cub from Brother BearĀ (and yes, he lives up to the name with his goofy playful side).

  • OdinĀ might sound like he belongs in Norse mythology, but believe it or not, he came to us with the name is has (more on that in another blog post). Thankfully Disney bought Marvel, (Odin is Loki & Thor's father) so he still fits the theme!

  • EzzyĀ (short for Esmeralda) is named after the fierce, free-spirited heroine from The Hunchback of Notre Dame — and if you've met her, you know she embodies every ounce of that sass.

  • And our newest addition, Ursula, may be small(ish) for now, but she’s got the attitude of a sea witch and the voice to match. Total scene-stealer.

🐶 2. Our Litters Are Themed After Disney Movies

We don’t just stop at names — every litter is themed after a different Disney movie. Think The Lion King, Tangled, Peter Pan, or Frozen, with puppies named accordingly.

Because if you’re going to raise a bunch of drooling, adorable fluffballs, why notĀ give them names like Simba, Maximus, or Olaf?

It makes puppy updates even more fun. Plus, who wouldn’t want to adopt a little Newfie named Mushu?

🧬 3. Odin Is Actually Koda’s Uncle

Yep — plot twist! Koda's mom was Odin's litter mate! It's a true family affair around here, and it shows. These two are as thick as thieves, sharing everything from nap spots to snacks (sometimes voluntarily, sometimes… not). Watching them together is like watching a buddy comedy in slow motion — with a lot of snoring, drooling and tail wags.

šŸ’¦ 4. They Love Water… A Lot

If there’s a puddle, pond, lake, or hose in sight, our Newfs are already halfway in it. Bath time? Not a problem. Swimming? Pure bliss. Even their drinking habits come with a splash zone. - Let’s just say our floors have accepted their fate.

🤧 5. The Ceilings Are Not Safe

If you’re new to Newfies, here’s a critical fact: when they shake their heads, the drool flies — and we do mean flies. Walls, furniture, unsuspecting guests, and yes… ceilings. The physics defy logic, and no surface is safe. - We consider it abstract art at this point.

šŸ… 6. Koda Was a Star Student

Koda didn’t just melt hearts — he earnedĀ them. He was the standout of his AKC puppy class and has done early training to be a therapy dog. His friendly and loyal energy makes him a natural at comforting people. He's the kind of dog who knows when to just be there — lovingly with his head on your lap.

🐾 7. We Also Have a Mini Dachshund Who Thinks She’s One of the Giants

Her name is Vii, and while she may be a mini dachshund, don’t tell her that — she’s 7 pounds of pure confidence living among 500 pounds of fluff.

Vii fully believes she’s one of the Newfs. She bosses them around, steals their beds, snatches their food, and occasionally tries to ride on them (with mixed results). She’s the true queen of the house, and the Newfs respect her authority… probably because she moves the fastest. - She may be tiny, but her attitude? Full size.
